As one of the youngest Standing Fellow of China Intellectual Property Society, Dr. Wenxuan Chen has triple work experience as prestigious judge, senior legal counsel and lawyer. He has extensive practical experience across different industries, businesses, laws and regions.


Dr. Chen was formerly a Presiding Judge at the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court, where he adjudicated more than 800 cases concerning disputes on intellectual property, antitrust, and commercial matters. He also participated in the drafting of a number of judicial policies and interpretations under the guidance of Supreme People’s Court of China, including White Book on China's Judicial Policy on Intellectual Property, Judicial Interpretation on Trial of Patent Infringement Disputes, Judicial Interpretation on Trial of Patent Reexamination and Invalidation Proceedings, Judicial Interpretation on Trademark Review and Adjudication, and Judicial Interpretation on E-commerce and Rights of Network Dissemination etc.


Dr. Chen joined Alibaba Group in 2014 as Chief IP Protection Counsel as well as leader of Nonstandard Dispute Resolution Team, responsible for resolution of complex, high-stake and new types of disputes. While at Alibaba, Dr. Chen was involved in a wide range of matters, including E-commerce, cloud computing, logistics, digital entertainment, film and televisions, health and medical care, big data, social media, marketing, E-finance and other multiple industries.


In addition to Standing Fellow of China Intellectual Property Society, Dr. Chen currently also serves as an external supervisor at Law School of Renmin University of China, a panel arbitrator of South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, and an external expert of Patent Examination Cooperation Center at China National Intellectual Property Administration.


Dr. Chen published his magnum opus Patent Boundary - Interpretation of Claims and Policy Adjustment of Protection Scope ( Intellectual Property Publishing House, 2014), and co-authored 5 books including Selected Chinese Patent Cases which has an English version published by Wolters Kluwer (2014). He once participated in 17 research projects with national, provincial and municipal level, and published more than 30 journal articles. Dr. Chen is also a co-inventor of 8 patents and patent applications.
